Mirror

As I look in the mirror at my reflection
I can only see my imperfections

Trying hard to point out the good within me
Discovering what others can clearly see

Searching my soul for my purpose here
Wanting my fears to just disappear

Gaining strength to fulfill my goals
Desiring again to feel complete and whole

Seeking out in my life what’s missing
Pushing past my thoughts constantly reminiscing

Overlooking nightmares haunting
Attempting to cease the persistent taunting

Wondering how my experiences can benefit others
Hoping my joy and pain can help another

Spreading my life through my words
Speaking my truths that were previously unheard

Looking past my physical appearance
Ignoring the usual interference

Exploring all possible resolutions
Not focusing on any other conclusions

Making my place in this universe
Sending all negative energy into reverse

My destination route is now clearer
Double checking my reflection in the mirror

If you are able to reverse negative energy after looking in the mirror, you are a lucky person. That is wonderful. I'll work on doing just that.

LOL...I know right Secretia....You can reverse negative energy by reconizing it and getting the courage to do so...Looking in a mirror gives you a good look at yourself...and helps me make the hard decisons in life...

Once you are able to look directly at yourself for change, progress is right around the corner. I'm always soul searching.

Well if you're finding it hard to find the good things in yourself just ask me I have a long list of them.

Most def 25Champ...My Mirror in this one was the metaphor for soul searching :)

JStar...

That was "beautiful", girl. For real. And I could so completely relate to what you were saying. ALL OF IT.

My question to you:
Who initially stole this from you and at what point in your life? "Desiring again to feel complete and whole".

Mine was a result of an asshole of a stepfather and it kind of just transferred into my adult life. I struggle with it everyday, but learning to not give it as much energy as I once did...

Traci, It was my father who stole it from me when I was 12/13...I am still learning how to deal with this...Haunted me ever since...Nightmares and all that...Then man after man I have dealt with since has had their own contributes...

JStar,

I feel your pain. That's so messed up - it happened at the same time in my life too. My mom stayed with him through the impressionable years too so it was bad. My own father died when I was 3 so he was really the first man I knew. She eventually left, but the damage was done...

The men that followed...I understand that too and the need for acceptance and all that. It's a tangled web they weaved for us, huh? I know you're making strides now though since you have girls. I rooting for you!

JStar said...

Thanks so much Traci...Yea that really hard to go thru...esp at that age...Messes our lives/head...But we pick it up and get back on track, thats all we can do...

Hence my poem called "Burden" under my Pain theme...

I can completely relate to this poem. It's often times very hard for people to see in them what others see so clearly.
I love the emotion in this piece, to me that's what makes a good poem, a poem with feeling and truth <3

That first line was dead on, because it's easy to see the imperfections first, but then the poem gets brighter...which is true too. Because at some point you step back and say, "Damn, I'm a handsome MF"

Great poem.

ignoring the usual interference, this line speaks volumes. cause i have to believe that in each and every thing we attempt, full steam ahead, there is always that roadblock which never fails to appear.

once a person has the mental aspect completely solved...it's on!
